I am a yogi at heart but there is still a part of me that enjoys dabbling in other related fitness. In 2019 a friend introduced me to Barre. As a child I was built for playing Atari and there wasn’t a single elegant bone in my body but as I reached my 30’s and 40’s something shifted in me. There was an inner ballerina in me all along. Those first Barre classes (okay more like the first 30) were tough. These classes tapped into body parts that were asleep and if they were awake they were certainly not prepared for this type of work out. I am always up for a challenge and giving up is never an option and I could feel my body strengthen over time as well as my posture improve. What a fabulous compliment to my yoga practice.
Fast forward to 2022; it was time to dip my toe into the world of Pilates, both mat and reformer. I thought Barre was challenging; this Pilates thing was on a whole new level. This was an entire body workout. Getting into the deep abdominal muscles, lower back, hips, glutes, and pelvic floor. Building lean muscle, improving my spinal alignment, providing joint stability, and creating functional strength for everyday movements.
I came to a realization that yoga is my core practice; however, adding on pilates was a necessary compliment to keeping my body flexible, strong, and to support the mobility of my joints critical to my aging body.
